Fireworks and a Roof Fire Free Fourth!

The Naples Pier and Fireworks are my favorite memory for the Fourth of July.  However the traffic has deterred me in the past few years.  So, fireworks and a barbecue at home is the new way I spend my fourth.
The big question I hear at this time of year is...How do I prep my roof to prevent a fire from a miss guided firework?  Well, if any of you have been to Disney World you will see preventing sparks from possibly starting a fire is serious business. They have sprinklers that run before and during their HUGE Fireworks Displays.

Now, I know that you are not doing Fireworks to Disney proportions, but face it you are an amateur and things can go south pretty quickly.  One thing that you can do to safely prepare your house is to take a look at your roof.
Debris on your roof and gutters full of needles, leaves and pine cones all make great fuel for fires.   And, if your roof happens to sport a blue tarp, that also makes it susceptible to fireworks-started fires.  Roofs should be checked every year or two anyway to ensure the its longevity. So,  maybe this is a good time for you to take a look at your roof, gutters, and fascia.  If it’s not smart for you to be up on the roof top — even if you have done it in the past — contact us to look at your roof.   239-353-2800

If you have vegetation on your roof,  loose shingles or rot developing, it’ll be well worth your money to have it addressed now.  Plants and scattered leaves are signs of needed maintenance. Vegetation will shorten a roof’s life substantially. And, as I said, all of this can provide fuel for a fire.

So, enjoy your Independence Day! Just take a few precautions before this Friday to ensure your home is safe from any fireworks that may come in contact with your property!
Remember, Freedom is not free!  Thank a Veteran or Soldier for their sacrifice!

What Comes First the Cleaning or the Repair?

Common question:  Is it better to clean my roof prior to a repair or after?
ANSWER: First, NEVER clean a SHINGLE Roof.  The granules are removed during the cleaning process and shorten the life expectancy of the roof. TILE roofs should be cleaned every 5-6 years.  A licensed roofing company should inspect your roof AFTER for any damage that may have occurred. METAL Roofing Systems can be cleaned as well  BUT never with Bleach.  Caustic chemicals will remove any protective coatings on the panels and in many cases VOID your warranty!
Always beware of harsh chemicals on your roof system. Not only can they decrease the life of your roof, they also destroy landscaping and foliage around your home.
If you need your roof cleaned or would like an estimate to repair your roof, Contact us today at 239-353-2800.
